Marketing Tips for Small
Businesses
by Rena Larranaga
Mar. 16, 2002
Often, small business owners
don't have a lot of time and money to spend marketing. However,
the key to effective marketing is consistency. Here are a few
tips you can implement right away to help your small business.
- Advertise in local newspapers.
Don't forget weeklies, monthlies and shoppers.
- Attend meetings, networking
socials and other events where you can make a lot of contacts.
Give your name and business card to everyone you can.
- Send out a certain number
of direct mail pieces each week (try for 20, 50, 100 or more)
to your targeted market. Follow up with a personal phone call
and ask them for their business.
- Review all of your printed
materials. Are they professional and up-to-date? Do they give
the message you want to give?
- Contact past customers and
re-establish a relationship with them. Offer discounts or incentives
for them to return.
